Humidors preserve and enhance your cigars
Humidors are to cigars what a wine cellar is to wine. Every cigar needs proper aging, appropriate humidity levels, and horizontal storage to make it the best it can possibly be.
A humidor is a specially designed box for holding cigars. Humidors are most frequently made from Spanish cedar and contain a hydrometer to maintain a constant humidity level. Proper humidity levels are essential for preventing cigars from drying out or becoming too moist and developing mold. The temperature inside humidors should ideally be between 68°-70° F with a relative humidity of 70-72%. This is the most critical factor in maintaining the quality of your cigars.
Make sure the humidor box is perfectly squared and that all seams fit tightly. Any gaps in the seams will inhibit your humidors ability to maintain a constant humidity level. The lid should close tightly and evenly with a snug fit, and the humidification device must maintain a constant level of humidity with minimal maintenance required.
Even when stored in a humidor, remember to rotate your cigars approximately once a month. Keep your humidor away from direct sunlight, air ducts, and direct interior lighting. Dust only with a cloth, as polishes can affect the wood and thereby impact cigar flavor.
Open your humidor as little as possible to maintain the humidity level. If your cigars are wrapped, be sure and remove them from their cellophane to enable the natural curing process.
Remember to periodically check the humidity level inside your humidor and remoisten the humidification device as needed using pure distilled water. Properly maintained humidors will keep your cigars in perfect shape for many years to come.
